| dc.description.abstract | A hipertensão arterial (HTA) continua a ser um dos maiores factores de risco para o desenvolvimento de aterosclerose e subsequente doença cérebro e cardiovascular. O papel do pediatra inclui não só a avaliação e terapêutica dos doentes com HTA estabelecida, mas também, a identificação de crianças em risco de HTA e início de medidas de prevenção adequadas. Foi feita a revisão das mais recentes recomendações para a avaliação da tensão arterial e diagnóstico de HTA nas crianças e adolescentes. Foi também abordada a utilização crescente da monitorização ambulatória da pressão arterial (MAPA), a qual permite uma melhor caracterização dos valores da tensão arterial e tem uma boa correlação com as lesões dos órgãos alvo. A interpretação da tensão arterial ambulatória durante o período de 24 horas foi também realçada, assim como a utilidade e limitações do MAPA. ABSTRACT Systemic hypertension (HTN) remains one of the major risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis and subsequent cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease. The role of the pediatrician includes not only the management of patients with established high blood pressure, but also the identification of children at risk of HTN and the initiation of preventive measures when indicated. We review the current recommendations of evaluation of the blood pressure and diagnosis of HTN in children and adolescents. We also approach the increasing use of the ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), witch improves the accuracy of blood pressure measurement and is well correlated with end organ injury. The interpretation of the ambulatory blood pressures during a 24-hour period was also emphasized, as well as the utility and limitations of the ABPM. | por |
