| dc.description.abstract | RESUMO O transporte automóvel com o correcto sistema de retenção pode evitar até 90% de lesões graves em caso de acidente, particularmente no recém-nascido (RN). O objectivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a forma de transporte do recém-nascido após a alta hospitalar; conhecer as atitudes dos pais em relação ao transporte de crianças em automóvel e os factores determinantes na decisão dos pais quanto ao meio de retenção a utilizar. Material e Métodos: Foi aplicado um inquérito anónimo, de forma aleatória a puérperas e seus cônjuges à data da alta do RN. Resultados: Obtiveram-se 102 inquéritos. Apesar de 79% dos inquiridos já terem obtido a cadeira adequada, apenas 43% planeava utilizá-la à data da alta e só 19% demonstrou conhecer a forma correcta de colocação da cadeira. Dos 36 inquiridos que tinham outros filhos, 23 (64%) transportavam-nos correctamente; porém, só 6 (17%) planeavam transportar o filho recém-nascido também de modo adequado. Conclusão: Os dados obtidos mostram a necessidade da educação dos pais e comunidade em geral sobre o transporte em segurança de recém-nascidos e crianças no automóvel, bem como de intervenção no sentido de aumentar a adesão dos pais às regras de segurança rodoviária. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT Objective: Using the correct car restraint during motor transportation can prevent up to 90% of serious lesions in case of accident and especially in the newborn. The objective of this study was to know how the parents planned to transport their newborns from hospital to home and children in general. It was also designed to research factors affecting the parental decision. Population and methods: We applied an anonymous randomized inquiry to 102 parents in the post-delivery period. Results: Seventy nine percent of the parents had already acquired a car restraint; 43% intended to use it at the discharge; only 19% of the parents knew the correct way to use the car restraint. Thirty six couples had other children; they transported them in a safe way in 64% of the cases; only 17% knew how to restrain correctly the newborn. Conclusion: Our data point out the need to increase community knowledge of the effectiveness of appropriate child restraints in preventing death and injury and also to increase compliance of parents and children with correct car restraint use laws. | en |
