Abstract(s)

No Hospital de São Teotónio de Viseu, durante os anos de 1994 a 1998, registaram-se 13366 recém-nascidos nados-vivos, sendo 1302 (9,7%) filhos de mães com idade igual ou superior a 35 anos. Os autores analisaram as incidências da prematuridade, baixo peso, atraso de crescimento intra-uterino e morbilidade, comparando-as com as dos restantes nados-vivos no mesmo período. Concluíram que somente a prematuridade foi significativamente mais frequente com o aumento da idade materna. From 1994 to 1998, 13366 babies were born at São Teotónio Hospital-Viseu and 9,7% (1302) of the mothers were aged 35 years or older. The authors reviewed the preterm delivery, intrauterine growth retardation, low birth weight incidences and morbidity and correlated them. It was concluded that the preterm delivery was the only one of these which was significantly more frequent with advanced maternal age.
